Using IVF as a Single Woman

Using IVF as a Single Woman

Being a single parent is becoming more and more common with more than two million single parent families in the UK alone. Around 25% of all families only have one parent, and that number doesn’t seem to be changing any in recent years. While there are some women who are single mothers because of life circumstances, such as the death of a partner or a divorce, there is a growing number of women who have decided that they won’t let the fact that they are single prevent them from becoming a mother. The number of single women who are opting for IVF treatment to become pregnant and start their own family has been on the rise in the past and is not showing any sign of slowing down. At First Fertility, we are used to having single women come in for IVF treatment and have the experience, education, and compassion necessary to help our single female patients through the process of IVF.

Most people feel the primal urge to have children, as this is something that is a part of all of our genes and is a desire that is very common and healthy. For some women, the drive or desire to have a child can be overwhelming and is something that is impossible to ignore, no matter how successful they are in life or what their current family situation is. Single women all over the world are seeking fertility treatment and at First Fertility Bangkok, we are here to help.

Why Do Women Choose This Option

  • Many women do not have a partner and yet want to have a child. They are unwilling to compromise with a partner they do not love or respect in order to get pregnant.
  • Some women find getting pregnant to be incredibly difficult and need professional help, including treatment and even donor embryos or eggs.
  • Since many women have focused on establishing and advancing their careers, they often miss the optimal time frame for becoming a mother. In the past this meant that these women were unable to get pregnant or had to risk a dangerous pregnancy, but not anymore.
  • Women who are in an unstable relationship may prefer to become a mother by themselves, without waiting on their partner to agree.

While in the past, women needed a man to become pregnant, that is not true anymore. Women are more confident in choosing when they are going to have a baby and whether or not they want to have a child by themselves. In addition, many women realise that their fertility is decreasing and want to consider fertility treatment so that they still have the option of having children. While we know that this can be a scary time in your life, at First Fertility Bangkok, we have worked with many women in different situations and are able to offer professional help.

What Single Women Considering IVF Need to Think About

While single women no longer need to worry about what other people will think of them for considering fertility treatment in order to have a family, there is still one decision that they need to make. Women need to decide if they want to use an embryo donation or sperm donation in order to conceive.

Sperm Donations

Fertility treatments are significantly easier when they are completed with a sperm donation. It’s easy to choose the donor sperm that you want to use for your treatment, and being able to select from options such as occupation, eye colour, height, and nationality all make it easy to choose features and help control the future of your child. Because we carefully screen all of our donors before we accept them into our donor programme, you don’t have to worry about the quality of sperm that you have to choose from. This will allow you to be certain that all of the sperm we have is high-quality and specifically chosen.

When you undergo IVF, we will use the donor sperm that you have chosen to fertilise your eggs when they are collected. It is possible to use sperm from another donor if you want to, especially if you want to work with a company that allows open donor information.

Embryos Donations

When you need both donor sperm and donor eggs, then you will be undergoing fertility treatment with embryo donation. While this is not as common as using sperm donation for your treatment, there are still a few times when you need donor embryos, including:

  • Unsuccessful IUI/IVF with your own eggs in the past
  • Risk of passing on genetic disorders
  • Poor-quality or few egg reserves
  • You have gone through menopause

Our team of professionals at First Fertility will be here to help answer any questions that you have and ensure that you make the right decision for you. We are knowledgeable and able to help you make a choice regarding what you want from your sperm and egg donors and what characteristics you are interested in.

While you are at home taking medication in preparation for your fertility treatment, our team of professionals will be preparing your embryos for you. The embryo transfer procedure is relatively quick and painless and involves placing the embryos into your uterus by use of a catheter.
